2020 MCSL Summer Swim Season Update

    Piranha Families ---

Good evening!  I hope this e-mail finds you and your families happy and healthy in this difficult time.

After carefully assessing the evolution of the Coronavirus pandemic and assessing all of the options for being able to safely conduct swim meets this summer, the MCSL Board of Directors determined this evening that the 2020 MCSL Swim Season would be canceled.  I have attached their e-mail for you to review if you choose.

While this is not unexpected news, I know it is disappointing for many of us.  For parents I know we enjoy watching our children train, compete, and improve during the summer swim season.  We also miss the opportunity to socialize and spend quality time with our swim community, I know I will.  For our coaches, I know they were looking forward to the new opportunity to coach your children during another successful swim season.  Hopefully, many of them will be able to join us next summer.  For our swimmers they will miss their friends, fun with the coaches, and the ability to show how they have improved over last year.  Take time to make sure your kids and your friends are doing well this summer, as there will be no swim team, no summer camps, and general uncertainty about the future.  If you find you need help in any way please reach out to your swim family for help!

    A few notes:

    1.  We will remain in the same Division next season, no changes will be made.

    2. Current officials will have their certifications extended for another season.  If you were due to recertify this year, you can recertify next year.

    3. Seniors who are missing what would be their final season, and will be 19 on 1 Jun 2021, will be allowed to swim with their teams next year in a special 19 year-old division in individual events and in the Open Relay.  They will NOT score points in the individual events, but can score points with their Open Relay team.  They can qualify for individual Divisionals, Coaches Long Course, and All-Star Meets in the special 19-year old age group.  This will occur for just one season.  If you find yourself in this situation, please contact me and we can discuss the details.

Please stay safe and let me know if you have any questions about this decision or plans for next year.  I will reach out from time to time to make sure we are all doing well and are prepared for next year!

    Piranha Power!!!
