    Piranha’s Week 2 News

    Good afternoon everyone!

Congratulations to the swimmers who participated in our first event of the season this morning at Time Trials. I hope everyone had a lot of fun to kick off our great season ahead.

For those new to the team, Time Trials are a way for the swimmers to get a baseline time, a chance to hang out with and meet new teammates and a time to get back into the groove of swim meets. For Coaches it’s a way for us to see all the strengths and also the areas we need to make some improvements in practice.

If you missed time trials today, I will be holding a make up time trial on Monday from 5-7PM. All swimmers participating should report to the pool by 5PM. Practices at 5 and 6 will be cancelled on Monday.

So what happens next? We will consolidate all the time trial results and I will begin making the first A meet line up Monday night. For the line up I will select the top 6 freestylers and top 3 IM, back, breast and fly to compete next Saturday. In addition to your times, a criteria for being selected for A meets is your declaration on Swimtopia. I will only select swimmers who have declared they can attend. Right now there’s about 50 swimmers who have not told me they can or can not go. That’s NOT ok. Every swimmer on the team will need to log in for every A meet and declare their availability. So basically, you could be the fastest swimmer in an event but if you do not do this one simple step, you will not be selected to go. I want to put together the best most competitive Piranha line up possible so please if you haven’t already, declare your availability for every A meet.

Swimming in an A meet is an honor for our swimmers and I want to be able to give that honor to the most deserving swimmers to represent the Piranha’s. A meets are scored and the results are used at the end of the season to determine our rank in our league. It takes a minimum of 6 athletes from each age group and gender to have a full line up. I currently do not have 6 athletes from the following age group declared available to go to our first meet in 1 week: 8u boys, 9/10 boys, 11/12 girls and 15/18 girls. Without a complete line up, we are handing over points to the opposing team. Whomp whomp.

You can expect to see the line up via Email on Thursday morning along with instructions on how to verify with me that you will indeed attend.

And finally our SHOUT OUT this week goes to the awesome parents who volunteered this morning. These meets are completely volunteer/parent run and I truly appreciate every one of you. Thank you for all that you do to make these meets run smoothly. I’ve coached at several other teams and have been to many different Time Trial events and this was by far the smoothest, most enjoyable one to date. WELL DONE!!!
